🌄 About the Experience
What is a Coworkation?
It’s the sweet spot between remote work and intentional travel.
A coworkation is about changing your surroundings to re-energize your work, while immersing yourself in new cultures, landscapes, and ways of being.
I host a 10-day curated experience where you can:
Stay productive with a focused work setup
Disconnect from digital noise, while staying connected to your team
Enjoy nourishing meals, cultural immersion, and mountain stillness
Meet like-hearted travelers and creators
🇮🇳 Why India? Why the Himalayas?
India is rich, raw, and deeply grounding. Dharamshala — home to the Dalai Lama and Tibetan exile community — is a unique blend of:
Serene Buddhist culture
Himalayan forests and rivers
Artistic communities
Local temples and tea gardens
It’s a place where pace slows down and presence grows.
Why AltSpace?

Time slows here… It’s a beautiful place with the mighty Himalayas in the background
Because it’s a unique place built with intention.
AltSpace is not just a guesthouse or coworking hub — it’s a space for stillness, clarity, and real human connection.
You’ll stay on a peaceful, green one-acre property with:
Cozy rooms and mountain views
Reliable high-speed Wi-Fi and backup power
A dedicated coworking space
Lush gardens and open skies
Delicious meals made with love
Every retreat is intimate, personalized, and community-driven.
What a Day Could Look Like
Here’s a sample flow (though every day has its own rhythm):
🧘♀️ 7:30 AM – Tea, yoga/stretch, silence
🍳 9:00 AM – Breakfast
💻 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM – Deep work
🍲 1:00 PM – Lunch break
💻 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Meetings or async work
🚶♀️ 5:30 PM – Walk through the tea gardens or a riverside dip
🔥 7:00 PM – Bonfire, folk music, or Himachali dinner
🌌 9:00 PM – Stargazing, journaling, rest
How Much Time Do I Actually Get to Work?
A lot. This isn’t a full-on retreat with every hour scheduled.
We’ve designed this so you get 4–6 solid hours of work time each day — in a dedicated coworking zone with fiber Wi-Fi and a quiet environment. Everything else is a bonus.

👋 Who Am I?
![]() |
Hi, I’m Jon — originally from Manhattan, born and raised in New York and New England. I studied East Asian Studies at Brown University, and spent a life-shaping year in Japan during college. That experience sparked something deep.
I ended up living in Japan for 20 years, from 1987 to 2007, immersed in its language, culture, and pace of life.
In 2008, I found my way to Dharamshala, nestled in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas — and I’ve called it home ever since. Nearly 17 years later, I’m still here, drawn by the simple rhythms of mountain life and the quiet sense of presence this place brings.
This coworkation is a way for me to share a piece of that with you — a chance to experience remote work in a setting that nourishes both productivity and peace.
