Easter, Tech-Broligarchs and the Neo-Dark Age

IMO, the story of the resurrection is best understood as an allegory. Today, many Christians view Jesus as a literal figure, fostering idolatry that conflates divine truth with historical figures, and even political leaders, rather than recognizing him as an allegory for the immortal spirit within. To be sure, there were (and are) siddhas (“ones who have attained paranormal capabilities”) in the Himalayas who, with training, could slow their metabolism to the point that they appeared dead, and then rise again, days or months later. Furthermore, from the second century BC, the Silk Road played a central role in facilitating economic, cultural, political, and religious interactions between the Eastern and Western worlds. So there were Christ-like people on Earth, from well before the time of Buddha c.2500 BC, and someone like Jesus, unaccounted for from age 13 to 30, could have traveled to Kashmir and become a siddha…and then returned there after the resurrection, and have a tomb with his name on it today (which I visited in the early 2000s).

However, when Lance Wallnau claims to have heard the Holy Spirit in 2015, telling him that the 45th chapter of the Book of Isaiah would reveal the identity of the 45th president, then consulted the text—which is about the pagan king Cyrus anointed by God to rescue Jews from captivity in Babylon—and concluded that the ‘heathen from Queens’ had been similarly anointed, I call bullshit on the Texas-based oil-industry marketer turned entrepreneurial theologian who is the leading prophet and strategist of the rapidly growing revivalist campaign known as the New Apostalic Reformation (NAR).

“The Trump revolution in the Republican Party has shed many of the last remaining vestiges of traditional interest-group alignments—most strikingly, the business-evangelical accord at the heart of the powerful Reagan coalition that reshaped right-wing politics in the 1980s—and has begun to morph into something unprecedented in modern American politics: a nakedly Christian nationalist push for maximum worldly power, primed to usher in a post-democratic age…What began as a faux-populist appeal to rescue an imperiled, mythic ‘real America’ is now a full-fledged political revival movement…The NAR is rooted in a long-standing alliance of charismatic worship and business-driven grievance politics, dating back to Cold War-era Pentecostal revivals that fused nuclear-age anxiety over the communist threat and the end of the world with preaching the [supposed] self-evident spiritual virtues of free-market capitalism. Since then, the charismatic strain of evangelical faith…has moved into the forefront of business-minded Protestant worship and political activism.” (emphasis mine) www.thenation.com/article/society/trump-evangelicals-nar

In American Theocracy: The Peril and Politics of Radical Religion, Oil, and Borrowed Money in the 21st Century (2006), Kevin Phillips critiques the Republican coalition in United States politics. He "presents a nightmarish vision of ideological extremism, catastrophic fiscal irresponsibility, rampant greed, and dangerous shortsightedness." Phillips points to three unifying themes holding this coalition together. First, its tie to oil and the role oil plays in American and world events. Second, to the coalition of social conservatives, Evangelicals and Pentecostals in this Republican coalition. Finally, he points to the "debt culture" of this coalition, and to a coming "debt bubble" related to the debt of the US Government and US consumers. He argues that similar issues have been prevalent in the past, when other world powers, such as the Roman Empire and the British Empire declined from their peaks and fell into disarray.

As Mark Noll, a historian specializing in the history of Christianity in the US says, “The scandal of the evangelical mind is that there is not much of an evangelical mind.” Noam Chomsky, in a 2017 interview on Republican Accelerationism, said, “Essentially, a portion of the republican party is trying to create the rapture, because they think it will usher in the second coming of Jesus.” Yes, they are trying to bring about the end of the world, and make a lot of money in the process. Following are some of their…tactics.

2017: Trump announces that he will pull the US out of the Paris Agreement, a 2015 pledge to limit climate change signed by 196 nations

2021: The Trump Administration Rolls Back More Than 100 Environmental Rules

2024: Trump 2.0: Drilling push, climate rollbacks, global clean energy concerns

2025: Trump Signs Orders to Promote Fossil Fuels and End Climate Policies; Trump seeks species protection rollbacks to promote US drilling; Trump Interior Secretary's Orders Make Public Lands Ground Zero for Drilling and Mining; The US enters its 'drill, baby, drill' era; Trump signs executive orders to boost US coal as power demand rises; Conservationists sue Trump administration over rollback of green policies; “Nearly two-thirds of the executive actions Trump issued during his first days in office mirrored proposals in Project 2025…He has continued to draw from it when it comes to his cuts to the government’s climate efforts—from targeting national monuments and the weather service, to culling scientists from the Environmental Projection Agency.”

Perhaps the interests of government, theocrats and broligarchs dovetail. Compared to a racially and religiously diverse population, a relatively homogeneous citizenry of poorly educated, fundamentalist Christians would be much easier to control. I can understand why, in the post-fossil fuel era, a plutocracy would want the veneer of a theocratic government, equipped with drones and robocops, to administer a civilization in decline. This explains much of what the Trump administration has been doing, as does the chart below.

“We live in a supermassive complex system, which has a life of its own, with its own inputs (resources) and outputs (pollution), as well as its own lifecycle. It is something best understood through the lens of systems dynamics, a modelling method developed in the late 1960’s. The first results were published in 1972, in a study titled Limits to Growth…the authors tracked the many interconnections between five key factors: non- renewable natural resources, persistent pollution, population, food production and industrial output, and established various scenarios. One of them was World3, or Business As Usual (BAU)…The latest iteration of these follow up studies was titled Recalibration23, published in November 2023. By looking at the chart above from the most recent model run one can easily understand the interrelated nature of the system. Just concentrate on the continuous lines: as resources (pink) go down and deplete, both industrial output (red) and food production (green) goes through a tipping point and starts to decline. As a result world population (orange) peaks and dwindles. Pollution (blue) will keep rising though as people go back to less cleaner technologies and burn just about everything they can put their hands on to stay warm in the winter.

“The authors of the study conclude that, like the BAU scenario, ‘the new scenario Recalibration23 reflects the overshoot and collapse mode due to resource scarcity. […] Here, the model results clearly indicate the imminent end of the exponential growth curve. The excessive consumption of resources by industry and industrial agriculture to feed a growing world population is depleting reserves to the point where the system is no longer sustainable. Pollution lags behind industrial growth and does not peak until the end of the century. Peaks are followed by sharp declines in several characteristics. This interconnected collapse, or, as it has been called by Heinberg and Miller (2023), polycrisis, occurring between 2024 and 2030 is caused by resource depletion, not pollution. The increase in environmental pollution occurs later and with a lower peak’.”

In January, 2024, Occidental Petroleum’s CEO warned, “2025 and beyond is when the world is going to be short of oil.” After a brief plateau, all models suggest an ever accelerating decline.

Limits to Growth authors: “It is to be expected that the complex socio-economic relationships will be rearranged and reconnected in the event of a collapse. World3 holds the relationships between variables constant. Therefore it is not useful to draw further conclusions from the trajectory after the tipping points. Rather, it is important to recognize that there are large uncertainties about the trajectory from then on…”

“Talking about the ‘rearrangement of complex socio-economic relationships’, how about the end of the unipolar world, and the rise of new trading blocks (BRICS+)? Perhaps a global conflict over who gets to burn the last barrels of oil available for export? Or a major financial meltdown upending the current financial system? Tumultuous times are all but guaranteed in the decades ahead…The detrimental effects of climate change unleashed by burning all that oil, coal and natural gas will become impossible to fend off.” https://thehonestsorcerer.medium.com/2025-a-civilizational-tipping-point-da84d11a0e35

The Honest Sorcerer’s “thought experiment” is already playing out: “Economic inequality increases, with a small, entrenched billionaire class and their kin at the top, and the remaining 99% of people living in the danger of falling into permanent poverty…Demonstrations become increasingly frequent, even as the militarization of police continues. Social media manipulation, digital surveillance and social credit scores based on a digital identity becomes commonplace, together with AI driven drones and law-enforcement bots. Utopia through science and reason under the rule of an enlightened leadership class seems further than ever. Meanwhile the climate gets really busy reorganizing itself into a messy hothouse, leaving a relatively stable Holocene behind.”

Government “spending, except for military purposes, get axed. The economy — wrecked by the combined effect of resource depletion (especially that of oil), wars, trade barriers, climate change, a slow motion infrastructure collapse, corporate greed, inflation etc. — simply can no longer produce the surplus needed to maintain social programs…Thanks to the ever present (and still growing) pollution load from plastics, pesticides and herbicides cancer rates and heart disease soars, lowering average life expectancy by a decade or two everywhere; further accelerating the depopulation of the most polluted neighborhoods. Meanwhile, much to the same reason, the fertility crisis hits epic proportions.” https://thehonestsorcerer.medium.com/history-as-witnessed-by-the-last-human-on-earth-3e5c65a5d041

“A silent coup is being performed in the background by a small handful of tech-oligarchs, working towards a technutopian ‘network state’ driven by AI algorithms and concentrating hitherto unimaginable levels of power in the hands of a small group of private business owners. As Mike Brock, ex-tech executive, wrote in his brilliant essay titled The Plot Against America, ‘What we’re witnessing isn’t just a power grab — it’s the culmination of an ideology that has been incubated, tested, and refined for over a decade. First, these thinkers argued that democracy was inefficient. Then, they created technological tools — cryptocurrency, blockchain governance, and AI-driven decision-making — to bypass democratic institutions entirely. Now, they’re no longer experimenting. They are seizing control of government infrastructure itself, reprogramming it in real-time to function according to their vision. This is why focusing solely on the technical aspects of what’s happening inside agencies misses the deeper transformation underway. Every unauthorized server, every AI model, every removed civil servant represents another step in converting democratic governance into what Yarvin called ‘neocameralism’ — a system where society is run like a corporation, with clear ownership and control rather than democratic deliberation. The infrastructure being built isn’t meant to serve democratic ends — it’s meant to make democracy itself obsolete.” https://thehonestsorcerer.medium.com/until-debt-tear-us-apart-fc31dab93efe

But it’s not all bad, if you remember the allegorical essence of Easter. That is to say, the Holy Spirit of Christ “dies” when it enters matter—when the primordial consciousness called God births our spacetime universe in the Big Bang. Then, after three eons of evolution, from mineral to plant to animal, this spirit rises again, when an individual ego awakens to the oneness of self and (universal) Self, the consciousness that transcends spacetime, also known as bodhicitta, the Buddha's compassionate and enlightened mind; Buddha-nature, "the originally clear and pure mind inherent in all beings, to which they must awaken.” Awakening is always here, and always now.
